Fan Reactions To The ThunderCats Trailer

On Saturday MTV Geek was the first to break the new ThunderCats trailer that premiered on Cartoon Network the night before.   We shared our thoughts with you right away, but don't want you to just take our word for it that fans are stoked!

So we caught up with Chris and the team over at ThunderCatsLair.org (where we spend way too much time ourselves) and got their reactions!

Chris aka He-Fan, Team Leader at ThunderCatsLair.org

"The new trailer for the ThunderCats animated series looks excellent, and reactions to it on the whole have been overwhelmingly positive!  We've all seen rejected concept art of plans that Warner Bros had for reviving the property before this, including the ThunderCats as a rock band concept and also the CGI ThunderCats movie - whilst everyone has their own opinions about what would have worked, this is arguably the most instantly recognisable modern-day take on the ThunderCats, and probably the best received!  All of us on the ThunderCats Lair team are excited to see how this develops and can't wait for the first episode!"

"WOW! The new series looks amazing! So glad that Jaga is there! Anyone notice that Grune is wearing the same helmet as Jaga? I'm guessing his outfit will change when he goes bad....

I'm liking all the look of the characters in animated form. Just a shame we didn't get to see Panthro...."

"I'm impressed. It's wonderful looking, stuff, and they've still kept in line with the original character designs for most of the characters. I like it. I like it lots."

"The clip CN showed tonight demonstrates that now Thundercats is full on Japanese anime in style, and probably in storyline too. (I wonder if the fight for the throne of Thundera is like a Dragonball Z martial arts fight. The big arena might suggest that.) Conspicuous in his absence in the clip was Panthro. Definitely worth going frame by frame to see the details. More adult in style too. Let's hope the writing goes in that direction. It would make fan fiction writers happy to see a more realized Thundera."

"it looks TRULY EPIC. This is what am talking about!

From the looks of it, dissolves all speculations about the New Series being merely a typical childish anime. IT has surpassed my modest expectations. mark my word, it's going to Be EPIC."

"So far I like what I saw.. thanks!

I like the whole TCs army. I like seeing Tygra next to Claudus in so many scenes.

We got to see WilyKit and Kat there too... not so much Panthro though.

What bothers me is the Lion-O against tygra scenes, probably fighting for the right of being the Lord of the TCs. Not liking that idea really. Or maybe fighting his family -*presumed adopted* brother and his father (he fights Claudus as well)-, the persons he should love the most, was Lion'O's final trial."

"It looks better than I expected. Whats with the having Reptilians as slaves though? Are Thunderians that cruel that they would enslave prisoners like that, or is it Grune's doing? I hope the intro is as good as that trailer. Heck, I say use it as the intro. I know Ive hated on the designs, But I will be watching this. I loved the music."

LioConvoy, ThunderCatsLair.org member

"I'm guessing that either Grune is enslaving the Plundarians behind Claudis' back (And that's what starts the war) or he's plotting against his King with the help of Mumm-Ra, who is using the Plundarians as slaves. I'm also guessing that in this series Mumm-Ra is some ancient threat either thought to have been folklore, or reawakened after Panthro arrives on Third Earth. And I love the design for Claudis. I hope Lion-O grows into that size. MANLINESS."

"As overused as this phrase has become, I'll say it anyway: Best. Trailer. Ever. In addition: Yes! Yes!! and YES!!! This is what I always wanted the show to be: something that was grand and epic in scope and scale with a lot of richly-drawn characters. Something that had a progressive story that told how Lion-O would grow into a great leader and his struggle against the darkest evil. THIS WAS IT!!! Earlier I said that I had hoped that this new show would be to the old what the new Battlestar Galactica was to the original 1970's version. It doesn't look like I was that far off. I've said before that the old show, while it had its moments, I wasn't 100% crazy about. This however is something I can get behind 100%. I'm eagerly looking forward to talking about this show with the rest of you when this premieres! Thundercats, ho!"

"Looks brilliant. I love the fact that Jaga,Claudus and Grune seem to have a big role. It I'll be interesting to see how the relationship with Grune gets bad. But who was the lord of the thundercats before Lion'o? Was it Jaga or Claudus? I forgot. I hope we'll see Claudus, Grune and Jaga in some epic battles too. Futhermore I hope Monkian,Jackelman,Slithe,Vultureman and Ratar'o return. An episode from the greatest fighter "The Demolisher" would be great too but that won't happen probably."

"Color me amazed. That was awesome!! I had to rewatch it several times. OMG! I hope it does well and is as amazing as the trailer. I wonder what the intro and theme will be like now. Its going to be hard to top the original theme and opener. I was iffy about Cheetarah before. Now I'm not. She is Hot and looks like she can kick some butt. Before i was going to be picky about the toy line, picking things here and there. What was I thinking?!? I want it all now! I still can hope for a cats lair however and maybe the new playset is more or less an arena? I want to see Panthro in action now. I cannot wait to see more! This is what I've been waiting for."

"Here's a real crazy idea....

TCats where the original "people" of Earth. Mumm-ra was a TCat who got involved in evil black magic and it forever altered him. He manipulated various organizes to create the mutants as his servants and went to war with the TCats. During the war one of the tactics that Mumm-ra used was to "devolve" some of the TCats... sort of the opposite of the process he used to create the mutants.

The war comes to an end, but neither side really won. The TCats were able to over power Mumm-ra and severely injury him... he escaped but was all put dead. Mumm-ra makes a pact with the Spirits of Evil, who save him but only through a long hibernation..."
