Life-Size R2-D2 Is An All-In-One Videogaming Wet Dream

by Zen Albatross

This life-sized R2-D2 may not be able to deliver vital Death Star schematics to Obi-Wan Kenobi or repair your damaged X-Wing, but it sure packs a heck of a lot of videogaming power. Matt Hawkins of independent videogame ‘zine Fort90 spotted this robotic gaming buddy earlier this month at Seattle's Penny Arcade Expo, and the thing is basically an all-in-one entertainment center.

Currently its robotic innards consist of – get ready for this -- an Original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, Xbox, PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast and Atari 7800, all connected to a built-in projector, speaker system and a huge A/V-out bay to display your game on anything, anywhere. Oh yeah, and it has a PSP mounted inside one of its shoulders, just for good measure. In short: If you're a gaming geek with a DIY fetish, this is the droid you're looking for.

The robot is the creation of UCLA mechanical engineering grad student Brian M De Vitis, who, after working on it for some time (Gizmodo took a look at an earlier version last year), finally gave the bot it’s public debut at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, in the Classic Console Freeplay area. The Force is strong with this one. Check it out:
