Rachel McAdams Reveals Why She Joined Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'

The reason is magical.

With reporting by Josh Horowitz

Like so much about Marvel's upcoming "Doctor Strange", Rachel McAdams' role is still completely shrouded in mystery. Who is she playing, and how will she be connected to the film's hero, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)?

McAdams isn't ready to get into juicy spoiler territory just yet, but when MTV News caught up with her at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City last night (November 30), which she was attending for her new film "Spotlight," the actress finally opened up about why she decided to join the Marvel family.

"I mean, I just love the director," McAdams told us. "I met with Scott [Derrickson] and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer. And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package."

Although she has yet to appear in the Cumberbatch-filled photos from on set, she confirmed she's begun filming her part, too -- and while she can't say anything yet, expect "Dr. Strange" to get -- well, pretty strange.

When asked about the look of the film, particularly given the surreal art director Derrickson has been posting to Twitter, McAdams agreed that this is going to be a very different visual feel from you "Iron Man" movies and "Avengers."

"It’s definitely not going to be like any of the other films," McAdams added.

"Spotlight" is in theaters now. "Doctor Strange" hits theaters November 4, 2016.
