'Iron Man 3': James Badge Dale Explains Why He Became Savin

When James Badge Dale finally took the role of the "muscle" in "Iron Man 3," it was a pretty big deal for the actor. He admits now that he has had plenty of opportunities to star in superhero movies, but it was only the role of Eric Savin that snagged his attention.

"I've actually passed on even auditioning for almost every superhero movie I've been sent because I didn't think I could play someone in a suit," he told Movies.com. "I don't want to be in a cape or wear a codpiece. So this was the absolute best of both worlds. I get to be in a superhero movie where my suit is actually just a regular suit."

Well, it's true that Dale didn't need to wear a suit in "Iron Man 3," but apparently there was another big draw that made this film his first superhero movie. Dale has starred in darker movies like "Shame," "The Departed" and "Flight," and he said it's nice to now be able to have something to share with everyone in his family.

"It's nice to finally be a part of a movie that the younger people in my family can actually go and see," he said. "I've got nieces and nephews who can finally see me in a movie. And it's just great to see it with a younger audience and hear people laughing or boo'ing at me in all the right places."

Up next Dale is starring in two more projects: "World War Z" and "The Lone Ranger." Though he won't be returning in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, at least he's opened the door to being a part of superhero projects. Maybe there are other, non-Marvel roles in his future?
