An 'Avengers' Meets 'X-Men' Movie? It Could Happen, Producer Teases

"The Avengers" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" almost crossed paths with a gesture as simple as inserting the Oscorp tower into the New York City skyline of Joss Whedon's superhero flick. That never worked out, of course, but that hasn't stopped fans from dreaming of the day that the Marvel Studios universe might one day mingle with the heroes owned by Sony, Fox and others.

Today brings further fuel to those exact kinds of hopes, as Crave Online recently asked "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donner if she had any interest in bringing Marvel's finest mutants and Earth's mightiest heroes together on the big-screen. In short: she's a big fan of the idea.

"I would love it. I would love it," she answered. "I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely."

While an "Avengers" and "X-Men" crossover is only the faintest of possibilities right now, Donner has enough on her plate with the future of the X-films all on their own. Specifically, coming up quickly on the horizon is "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which she gave a quick update on.

"Not quite fast enough but it’s coming along," she said of the project's development. "We have a great treatment and we’re just waiting for the screenplay."
