'Walking Dead' Fans Launch Soundtrack Campaign On Facebook

There are a lot of reasons to like "The Walking Dead." The zombies, the talented cast members, the compelling storylines, etc. Me, I'm a big fan of the hauntingly perfect music composed by Bear McCreary ("Battlestar Galactica," "Eureka"). As it turns out I'm not the only one, as a group of "Walking Dead" fans recently launched a campaign on Facebook asking AMC to release a soundtrack.

The campaign was born out of a recent Twitter exchange between showrunner Glen Mazzara and fans asking for info about the show's score. Mazzara tweeted that as of right now "there are no plans to release a soundtrack." Bummer. The good news is that the Facebook page is nearing 1,000 "Likes," but could definitely use a few more. MTV News reached out to McCreary himself to see what he thinks about the fan efforts.

"I'm honored that fans have started this grassroots campaign, and I'm happy to help spread the word," said McCreary. "AMC had the foresight to know that fans around the world would be enthralled with the story of 'The Walking Dead.' As a long time fan of the comic, I'm honored to be a part of it, and especially thrilled to see such passionate fan reaction to my musical contributions. I'm frequently bombarded with questions about a soundtrack album release and as a soundtrack geek myself, I can fully appreciate the desire to take music you've heard in a film or show and experience it in a new way."

So what will it take for AMC to move forward with releasing the soundtrack?

"AMC loves this series and takes every offshoot of it very seriously," McCreary said. "It's one of many things I really respect about working with everyone there. I imagine they just need to see the overwhelming fan support for the album. I have to think that this Facebook campaign for a soundtrack album will make a huge difference if the fans who started it can get that number of 'likes' to something impressive."

McCreary added that if a soundtrack happens, he'd love to involve the fans in helping him decide what tracks to include on it.

So what do you say, "Walking Dead" and McCreary fans? Get over to that Facebook page and give it some love already, and sound off on the news in the comments or on Twitter!
