Henry Cavill Compares 'Man Of Steel' To DC's New 52 Reboot

The next time you’re on the message boards waxing speculative about the latest “Man of Steel” still, consider that Superman himself might be watching.

Eager to do justice to America’s most iconic 4-color creation, Henry Cavill has been taking in fan opinions and probing Superman subject material. The British actor drew parallels between the “Man of Steel” script—penned by seasoned superhero screenwriter David S. Goyer for direction by Zack Snyder—to “The New 52,” DC’s universe wide reboot.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner on “Immortals,” in which Cavill plays a mortal Greek, the actor asserted that he is also a geek, albeit one who had, up until this point, managed to leave the Superman mythos unexplored in favor of sci-fi PC role playing games.

"There are a lot of people who have dedicated their life to loving this character," he said. "Their opinion does matter… I've done my research on the source material. I have my opinions on the various bits and bobs, but sometimes there will be a little gem out there about one of the books, and I'll say to myself, 'Yeah. That's a good point.'"

Cavill likened “Man of Steel” to “The New 52” in the way that the script leads readers to identify with an invulnerable hero.

"When [‘The New 52’] came out, everyone went, 'Arrhhh! Everything's changed,'" he said. "It's part of the evolution of the character. There is a modernization to it, and certainly our style is making him easier to associate with because it's pretty tough to associate with an invulnerable alien."

Cavill feels the weight of his stroke at the superhero. “Man of Steel” marks the actor’s rare second chance to be Superman. Eight years ago, Cavill was in the running for the lead in a McG Superman vehicle that eventually became Bryan Singer’s timid “Superman Returns,” starring Brandon Routh.
