'The Dark Knight Rises' Calls Upon… Adam West?

In the comic book movie space, there's no question that Stan Lee is the king of the cameo. The Marvel mastermind is mostly relegated to Marvel movies, however, despite his desire to show up in a Batman flick. Still, if Stan can't book a trip to Gotham City, that's not saying another famous face won't make a surprise appearance.

MovieWeb points us to a huge rumor stemming from Floss Magazine's Twitter account, which states: "Hollywood big wigs confirmed actor Adam West (Batman on the TV series) will make a cameo on 'The Dark Knight Rises' set to open July 20, 2012."

Um… what?

There's no other information to go on right now, sadly, but if an appearance from one of the most famous Batmen of them all really is in the cards… well, it's surprising, to say the least. Christopher Nolan is known for bringing gravitas and realism to the world of "The Dark Knight," staying away from many of the tropes and trends found in the more popcorn-level superhero fare. Bringing West in for a small role might be fun, but it also runs the risk of ripping the committed viewer right out of an otherwise dramatic picture.

Without anything else to consider, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the West cameo is bogus. Unless it's extremely brief and hard to catch, I think West's presence in "The Dark Knight Rises" would be far too disruptive considering the world that Nolan's built. It just doesn't seem like Nolan's style.
