Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Join 'The Dark Knight Rises' Cast?

The actor is currently in talks to join the cast in an unspecified role, Deadline reports. He recently worked with Nolan and "DKR" star Tom Hardy (recently confirmed as Bane), on the summer hit and Oscar contender "Inception."

With the movie set to shoot this spring, expect the casting to be confirmed — Deadline seems to think it is guaranteed despite the "in talks" state of things — soon.

Gordon-Levitt is currently finishing up work with "Brick" and "The Brothers Bloom" director Rian Johnson on the sci-fi flick "Looper," about a mob hitman (JGL) who realizes that one of his targets is his future self (Bruce Willis). He's got a couple of other movies coming out, indies "Hesher" and "Live With It," but his schedule seems to be open after "Looper" wraps.

The Riddler is an unlikely possibility, given Nolan's dismissal of the character back in October. With Anne Hathaway confirmed for the role of Selina Kyle, a strong indicator that Catwoman will be involved as well, and Hardy playing Bane, the "DKR" rogue's gallery could start to look a little crowded if another master criminal is added to the mix.

Maybe Nolan will go for an "evil superteam" dynamic, similar to the Catwoman/Penguin/Joker/Riddler team-up in the Leslie H. Martison-directed 1966 film "Batman," which was based on the Adam West TV series?

Yeah, probably not.
