Kevin Smith's 'Green Hornet' Comic: 'The Movie That Might Have Been'

Yes, the story Smith once compared to an "ex-girlfriend" found a new home at Dynamite, so even if he can't discuss it with Seth Rogen, he's ready to share it with comics readers.

"This kinda snuck up on me: my 'Green Hornet' book with Dynamite Comics IS IN STORES TOMORROW!" Smith posted on Twitter yesterday. "This [book] is the movie that might've been."

Smith praised the work his fellow creators on "Green Hornet" #1, which includes cover art by Alex Ross, John Cassaday and J. Scott Campbell.

"I've seen the whole 'Green Hornet' book and Jonathan Lau did a wicked job capturing the script," he wrote. "Thanks, also, to Phil Hester for layouts!"

Smith and Hester previously collaborated on DC's "Green Arrow" relaunch, which makes their reunion on "Green Hornet" all the more appropriate. The ten-part miniseries spans more than one generation of Hornet moniker-holders and trusted Hester and Lau with envisioning the movie Smith proposed. With all the comics scripts trying to make it theatrical adaptations these day, this case of a reverse scenario should be an interesting read to scope out on the racks this week.
