The next film in the "Superman" franchise could have the working title "Superman Unleashed" and be positioned as a sequel to “Superman Returns" and not a complete "Superman" movie revamp as had been previously thought.
Originally posted on the personal website of writer Alex Litel, the scoop was discovered on the official studio website of Legendary Pictures and presented the following summary of the film: “Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’ promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.”
While the project information has been stripped from the website since going public, the synopsis does seem to go along with the thought that the Superman film would “go darker” in its follow-up. A related post on /Film seems to confirm that this is indeed a working title for the next "Superman" film, too.
Even if this is a sequel to the Bryan Singer "Superman Returns," there's no telling what direction it could take, since Singer recently told MTV that he was “not officially in talks” to direct the film, and Lex Luthor is unlikely to return. It does seem to cast some extra doubt, however, on the earlier rumor that the Wachowski Brothers could be taking on the next superman movie.
What do you think, readers? Does this sound like a good direction for "Superman" to you?
