Madonna Picks New Dancer At Event In New York

NEW YORK – On Saturday night at the Roseland Ballroom, the Queen of Pop held court with some of her biggest fans and ten of the world's best dancers for the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange's Dance 4 Madonna competition, with one lucky dancer chosen to join Madonna's dance crew.

The event was the culmination of a months-long online search where contestants were encouraged to submit 60-second clips of themselves getting into the groove. The best of the best then made their way to NYC to audition in front of Madonna for a spot on her next tour.

Madonna arrived fashionably late – let's say she was very fashionable on Saturday – and as soon as she was in the house, things kicked off with a massive group performance. International groups mixing both modern and traditional dance hit the stage first to warm up the crowd. After the opening number wrapped, Madonna emerged from under the main stage in a revealing black body suit (that booty!), knee-high boots and a bloused white shirt.

The crowd went nuts, of course.

M then moved to a side stage, where she reclined on a lush white couch with her trusted choreographers to judge the competition. Her Madgesty's massive entourage – from manager Guy Oseary and longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg to her fashionable daughter Lourdes and boyfriend Brahim Zaibat – were also all on stage to give the Queen their thoughts on the dancers.

The ten finalists – Maya Shino, Bouyahaoui Sarah, Hanany Christopher, Delphine Nguyen, Brice Larrieu, Ouachek Mehdi, Bgirl Manuela, Niek, Charles "Lil Buck" Riley and Princess Lockeroo – traveled from around the world to compete for a spot in Madonna's dance crew. The dance solos took place all over the Roseland on a variety of stages (there was even a small dance platform on top of a video booth adjacent to the side stage) and the dancers gave their all during their time in the spotlight.

"What attracted me to the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project is the combination of participating in the celebration of nightlife around the world and the opportunity to discover the world's best unknown dancers," Madonna said a press release. "The best dancers are always in the clubs looking for the most original experience, just like Smirnoff is doing."

Ultimately, there could only be one winner and it was a hard enough choice that Madonna first narrowed it down to four finalists who then had to face off against each other in a bit of a freestyle dance-off.

So who was the last man standing? Ultimately, it was the very flexible Charles "Lil Buck" Riley who found himself in the Queen's favor. "This has been an incredible journey and a dream come true," Riley said after winning.

Once the formalities of the evening were behind her, Madge relaxed a bit, enjoyed a glass of champagne and even danced in the DJ booth where Martin Solveig, who is producing tracks for her much-awaited new album, was spinning a mix of her biggest hits ("Music," "Hung Up"), his hit "Hello" and radio-friendly jams like "New York State of Mind." She seemed to be having a great time late into the evening then, just as abruptly as she'd arrived, she was gone in a flash without so much as a farewell wave to the crowd.
