Lauren Conrad To Write Book Series About Reality-TV Star (Fiction, Of Course)

Hey, struggling writers, did you hear? Lauren Conrad, star of "The Hills," got a book deal! You know, the girl who already has a hit TV series and a clothing line? Wait, it gets better. Her contract is for three books!

At the very least, she's following the cardinal rule of writing: Write what you know. The young adult series "L.A. Candy" tells "the behind-the-scenes story of a young girl who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality-television show," according to a press release publisher HarperCollins sent to Usmagazine.com. The main character soon realizes that "everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it appears to be."

"I've always loved books that I could lose myself in, ones that would transport me to another place but had characters I could relate to," LC said in a statement. "I'm so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers."

She spoke to People.com about the series, saying, "It's definitely influenced by my own life. The books are about a girl who moves to L.A. and stars in a reality show, so obviously there are some similarities."

But don't expect LC to name names, like ex-BFF Heidi or her boyfriend Spencer. Like any good roman à clef, it's all thinly veiled. "Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out," the author said.

And in case you were wondering about Conrad's writing process, it involves a lot of conversations with her current BFF, Lo. "I run ideas by Lo, and I'll ask for her opinion because I value my friends' opinions," she explained.

She's already completed the outline for the first book (due next summer) and has told those closest to her about the series. "Honestly I haven't told everyone," she admitted. "I've told my best friends, and they have all been really supportive. Nobody was worried."

We wait with bated breath!
