After Almost 10 Years In The Game, Bow Wow Still Manages To Trip Us Out

I had a couple of miscues while trying to tell the world whom to look out for (Kobe Bryant as a rap star? Ehhhhck!). But I had successful calls, too (Jessica Simpson, 50 Cent, Pink, who introduced me to my favorite restaurant). Some, like then-Lil' Bow Wow, were easier to predict than others. At 12 or 13, homie had so much swagger (his iced-out Mickey Mouse pendant was sick) and was so charming, you knew he was going to be big.

Now, almost 10 years later, Bow (who happens to be the exact same age as one of my real-life little brothers -- they're three days apart) still trips me out every time I talk to him. He's always going up just a little more every time we talk.

I mean, everybody curses, right? But something about hearing Bow say "sh--," is surprising and, I'll admit, humorous. He's a man, though. 21. And the last time we talked, he was very clear about where he wanted to go in his career. He's figured out that when you're in the midst of your rap record cycle, you don't have to shut down your acting career. And when you're doing movies, you don't have to put your music on hiatus.

It's going to be very interesting to see where he can take it the next couple of years. He's still very young in regular-people years, but as far as his tenure in hip-hop, he's long in the tooth. His seventh album, Pedigree, will be dropping this winter. That's almost double a rapper's life expectancy. I thought his last album, Face Off with Omarion, was pretty dope and would be a lot bigger than it was. So, with a new solo project, how is B. Weezy going to take it to the next level and re-energize his career on the mic?

Acting-wise, he's just getting started. His previous endeavors were literally just kid's stuff. Now he's stepping on grown-man terrain with a stint on HBO's "Entourage." I'm looking forward to seeing how much Drama and Turtle can corrupt him onscreen.
