Hailee Steinfeld To Reveal 'Why We Broke Up'

According to Deadline, the Oscar-nominated thespian is in talks to star in "Why We Broke Up," a Fox 2000 adaptation of Daniel Handler's popular novel. Hailee will play the lead Min Green, a sophomore in high school who's obsessed with movies and coffee (who isn't?). When she becomes enraptured by senior and basketball team captain Ed Slaterton (his name just screams jock), she's swept up in a romance that's inevitably doomed.

After they break up, Min leaves Ed a letter and a box on his doorstep. The contents inside reveal why they broke up and include "two bottle caps, a movie ticket, a folded note, a box of matches, a protractor, books, a toy truck, a pair of ugly earrings, a comb from a motel room" and more. Min illustrates and reveals the significance behind the items unfolding the story of their relationship.

The film will be directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller who's directed episodes of "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock." Hopefully that means she can shed some humor on the heartache of breakups.
