'The Host' Seeks Diane Kruger

With filming slated to begin on the big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's alien invasion novel, "The Host," next month in Louisiana, it was only a matter of time before a few more extraterrestrials hopped aboard. The latest according to Deadline: The role of the Seeker could be filled by "Inglorious Basterds" star Diane Kruger.

The Seeker is a pivotal character in the tale of Melanie Stryder and her alien interloper, Wanderer. The sci-fi story follows the duo (who inhabit one body) as they attempt to track down Melanie's honey, Jared, one of the few remaining humans who's not succumb to the parasitic species. The Seeker oversees Wanderer's (mostly unsuccessful) attempts to acclimate to Melanie's body, and eventually sets out in search of Melanie/Wanderer when they go rogue.

Physically, Diane is a curious choice for the humorless Seeker as the character's described as a short brunette (i.e. the complete opposite of the leggy, tow-headed German beauty).

That being said, Diane would be joining an already impressive cast, which includes Saoirse Ronan (Melanie/Wanderer), William Hurt (Uncle Jeb), Max Irons (Jared) and Jake Abel (Ian).

(The report also noted that Open Road Films, the studio behind the flick, is looking to make this the first of a trilogy, despite Stephenie having written only one "Host" novel thus far.)
