'True Blood' Actor Ryan Kwanten Enjoys Yoga, Long Walks On The Beach And Drunk Triathlons

by Kristen Shalbinski

It's obvious just looking at the actor that being fit is one of his top priorities. "I'm not one of those actors who gets physically fit for a role and then loses it all again," he said. "I'm very rarely in the gym. My workouts are predominantly outside, in nature." However, Ryan doesn't ditch the gym entirely. He does take some classes—yoga classes, that is. "I used to laugh at anyone suggesting it," he told the mag. "Guys fear not being the best in these classes, but over time, you learn how to spend an hour not worrying about what anyone else is thinking. For guys especially, that’s a good thing."

Yoga is all about being relaxed and stress free. So where does Ryan release his stress when not on the mat? Outside, of course. "Just breathe some fresh air," he mused. "You don’t have to be going at a cracking pace. For me, it beats the hell out of the gym." Ryan, if you’re ever feeling stressed you know who to call for a nice stroll!

Don't let his zen, walking-in-the-woods talk fool you, though. Ryan knows how to turn up the intensity when he needs to. "I have that sporting background where I want to be the best, I want to be the champion. If I’m knocked down, you’re damn sure I'm getting back up again," he said. "A lot of actors who may very well be more talented than me don’t have that kind of tenacity in the face of rejection. That resilience gives me a distinct advantage." In addition to resilience, Ryan has another secret weapon that he says gives him a distinct advantage—and you'll never guess what it is. Alcohol. Yep. "I've been known to turn up drunk at triathlons and do very well," he boasted. We'll take your word on that one, Ryan.
