Liev Schreiber Responds To 'Bridge' Costar Scarlett Johansson's Loogie-Spitting Claims

"A couple of weeks ago we were doing this scene. He's right here [points to her face] and he's screaming at me and I'm tensing up and all of a sudden I saw it -- it happened in this kind of slow motion -- I saw it. These pearls of spittle sort of flying out. And then this one like asteroid of a loogie just like landed, but it made that flicking sound right there," Scarlett explained, pointing to her forehead.

In her description, the loogie was so big even the audience should have been able to see it, but when MTV News caught up with Liev on the phone Friday, he had another side of the story.

"I’m kind of pissed off to be honest," he joked. "First of all what really happened is sometimes in the course of doing an Arthur Miller play full speed every night your mouth tends to lubricate itself. I can assure you it was nothing more than spittle. Apparently she said I hocked like an asteroid-sized loogie onto her forehead which is just not true."

Considering the play is a twisted, creepy, old-man-uncle-getting-obsessed-with-his-17-year-old-neice type of tale (and, you know, it's Arthur Miller), we understand Liev's defense of passions flying high on stage. But Scarlett better watch her back, because Liev acted like he had some dirt to dish on her, too.

"If I went around on national television advertising the things she does on stage and in the privacy of her dressing room she wouldn’t be so happy about it," he told MTV. "So I think she ought to think twice before she lays into me."

Maybe she hocked one back at him right after? We can only hope.
