This Is What It's Like To Write A Song With Adele
Last week, Adele dropped "When We Were Young" on us, and on Saturday night, she dropped it on the entire world via a chandelier-quaking performance on "Saturday Night Live." Whether or not it'll become 25's legacy track a la "Someone Like You" remains up for debate (heavy debate, I'm sure), but what can't be denied is how powerful of a song it is.
The majority of that power is, of course, Adele's voice. But a portion of it comes from the song's co-writer, Canadian singer-songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr., who took to Facebook on Saturday to detail exactly what it's like to write a song with Adele -- a fantasy he's still having trouble processing as reality, according to the tone of the post. It's pretty amazing.
"Her music changed my life and as a songwriter she was an inspiration and showed just what a song could go on to do if it came from the right place," Jesso wrote in the post. "When I got the call that I would be working with her, my heart stopped."
It's a very long post, and it's very sweet, so you should read the entire thing below. And while you're at it, you should get to know Jesso, who's got a new-ish album of his own called Goon, which features plenty more heartbreaking jams like this one.
