Lupita Nyong'o Shares Some Of Her Go-To Beauty Secrets With 'Glamour'

We've already been operating under the assumption that Lupita Nyong'o is, in a word, flawless. Over the last several months, she's appeared on countless magazine covers, scored a modeling gig with Miu Miu, and stays steady killin' it both off and on the red carpet. (Oh yeah. She's also a really great actress, but, you know, details.) Have you ever actually seen her up close though? Like, close enough to spot even the faintest sign of a blemish? No? OK, well, technically, neither have we. But Glamour did when they tapped Lupita to show off spring's hottest lip colors—and (SHOCKER), she's still flawless.

"I went to an all-boys high school, and they accepted girls in only the two A.P. classes,"Nyongo' tells Glamour. "They had these archaic rules: For example, girls couldn’t wear makeup. I found it so outrageous that an all-boys school could tell girls to not wear makeup! So I went on a campaign. I got a petition signed and everything. If a girl wants to wear makeup to boost confidence, why not? [But] I’ve worked hard to feel beautiful in my natural skin. Personally, I don’t ever want to depend on makeup to feel beautiful."
Of course, that doesn't mean she won't experiment with the bright new shades stacked up for the spring season. "I love color," the 30-year-old actress tells Glamour of her red carpet beauty tendencies. "I’m enjoying trying all different shades. Makeup isn’t something I’ve worn a lot of in my life. So it’s good to work with someone like [makeup artist] Nick Barose, who is inspired by my complexion and knows how to work with it."
