Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, Katy Perry and the 2014 Grammy Awards made beautiful music together. Sorry, John Mayer. You've been replaced. With an inanimate event. Even though Katy didn't win any awards, she basically stole every stylish hour of the show with four different wardrobe changes. (I mean, Daft Punk cleaned up tonight, and I'm pretty sure they only changed helmets twice.) Hour One: Red carpet glamour. Hour Two: Electric performance-wear. Hour Three: Post-performance quick change. Hour Four: After-party glam. But there's WAY more to it than that. Let's break down all the finer details of Katy's big night, shall we?

OK, so you know how we said before that Katy and the Grammys made beautiful music together? Yeah, well, that wasn't just a colloquialism. There was actually a full song on Perry's Valentino Couture red carpet dress. From the front, it may appear to be a random scattering of notes and clefs and whatnot, but the view from behind makes it clear that, despite previous reports, she clearly needed a subtle way to get some last-minute practice in with the melody of "Dark Horse" before the live performance. (I'm guessing. I can't actually read music.) Also, quick question for Valentino: Was this dress repurposed from a Miss America pageant? Because I'm 99% positive that's the shadow of a state sash on the back.

Katy, girl. Were you binge-watching Game of Thrones this weekend? That hairdo is INSPIRED in, like, a queen of King's Landing kind of way. And don't get me wrong, it's really pretty—but there's no way that twist-braid-bun is real, right? The thickness and sheen—it's totally immaculate. Even more impressive, though, is that there's not a bobby pin in sight. It must be magic. (Or a clip-on piece.)

Katy accessorized her red carpet look with some fairly simple baubles and baby-pink nails. Her two rings, worn on the middle and pointer fingers, are both adorned with gold and diamonds and resemble the same Merlot shade as her chandelier earrings (seen above in the previous photo). Lovely!

Earlier this month, we saw Perry get ahead of the red carpet curve with a caped outfit onstage in Beijing. She must have really been feeling that first one, because KP wore yet another cape (albeit way witchier) for the beginning of her Grammys performance. Hmm. We're sensing a trend here. (*Cough cough* Prismatic Tour wardrobe.)

After Perry wandered around her haunted forest set for a bit, she stripped off her cape to reveal ink-splashed harem pants and a red, light-up crucifix where only her black bandeaux bra used to be. And again with the light-up clothing! OK, we're calling it. This is totally going to be a tour wardrobe thing, too, right? RIGHT?!

Point of interest: Katy's long, wavy locks. It's almost as if she just let down her giant, red carpet top knot and, lo and behold! Perfect performance hair. Maybe at a certain point backstage they started running out of time, which would also explain why she's only wearing partial arm warmers.

Later in the performance, Katy flung off yet another layer to reveal a purple-and-black striped skirt underneath her gray-blue harem pants. Now we finally get a glimpse of her footwear, too: heeled, lace-up combat boots. Ideal for dancing, a**-kicking, and...

Pole dancing! Who knew they could be so versatile? Big ups to those fishnet, crisscross, rose-adorned tights, too. How is there no run in those things after a move like that? #flexible #durable

Instead of changing back into her original red carpet gown post-performance, Perry put on yet another piece from Valentino Haute Couture, fresh off the Spring 2014 runway. She got the hook up, holla if ya hear me! This was like the Wicked Witch of the East to her Glenda the Good Witch pre-show dress: shorter, darker, and a little more fun.

Oh, and also wrapped with a super-luxe snake instead of dainty music notes. Couture Boa Constrictors are Katy Perry's spirit animals, apparently.

Her fourth and final look of the evening was a plunging, backless, sequined gown. That's a lot of adjectives for a night's fourth look, but Katy Perry goes BIG. Also, it could be the lighting, but is she suddenly way tanner than she was on the red carpet? Do they give out free spray tans at the Grammys?

Katy brought back her twist-braid-bun, which pretty much confirms that it is not her hair. Like, there's no time for a 'do that elaborate in between post-performance appearance and after-party, right? Also, closeup, those sequins are giving us major ~prismatic~ vibes. The lady really does love a theme.
