ICYMI, Katy Perry was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, and she put on a SHOW, you guys. The pop star sang two songs off her upcoming album, Prism (which rolls out on October 22nd), and per uzhe, she did not shy away from onstage theatrics. Many musicians tend to use the studio’s compact performance space as an opportunity to strip down their typical set and get back to basics—but let’s be honest: there’s nothing “basic” about the woman who brought us a boxing ring under the Brooklyn Bridge.

For her performances of “Roar” and “Walking On Air,” Perry stuck with the two-faceted steez that has come to define KP 2.0 in recent months: Jungle Queen and Spawn of Corey Mason. “Roar” was essentially a live reenactment of her music video, with the singer surrounded by lots of large ferns and other assorted tropical foliage. Also, her band and back-up singers were dressed as jungle animals. #committment Perry wore a ruched velvet leopard-print minidress with black briefs for butt-covering, and a black armband because that’s how queens of the jungle signify their queendom. Or something.

Oh, and if anyone forgot what the ‘90s were like (HOW COULD YOU?), Katy’s second performance was pretty much it in a nutshell. Wearing a white, mock-neck crop-top, black-and-white plaid mini, black Chanel cuff and knee-high white socks, Perry played up the decade behind the (assumed) inspiration for her new dance house single, “Walking On Air,” which could have totally been sung by like, The Real McCoy or Haddaway back in the day. Surrounded by a bevy of dancers in all-white get-ups on a stark set, complimented by flashes of metallic windblown fabric, the singer took ‘90s idol worship to a whole new level with the strobe light-covered stage and shadow-dancing behind a giant sheet.
