Happy 25th birthday, DKNY! Now you can rent an SUV on your own! With the advent of 2014 (by way of this Spring/Summer-showing New York Fashion Week), Donna Karan's youth-oriented diffusion line embarks on its 25th year of existence since its launch in 1989. Accordingly, the major anniversary show employed its own major surprise: a closing runway walk from forthcoming campaign face and all-around cutie patootie pop star Rita Ora. Sure, celebs sit front row for shows all the time (*achem* was anyone else FLIPPING out about seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis??), and sure, we already knew that Rita and DK were linked, but does that mean we expected this kind of catwalk cameo? Certainly not.

A string of big name models showcased Karan's nostalgic celebratory collection, strutting their stuff in hallmark trends of the label's initial heyday: overalls (haaaaay, Joan Smalls!), denim, patches, and paisley bandana print. And hearkening back to the debut DKNY collection, there were sweeping trenches, billowy muted neutrals, and staple tailored pieces.

In another throw back to the pervasive trends of the late '80s through the '90s, this 25th anniversary collection was drenched with big, bold logos, from massive "DKNY" printed dresses to two-piece sweatsuits, from rain jacket linings to patterned skirts. The collection alone was exciting enough, seemingly ending with Karlie Kloss in a gorgeous, minimalist, floor-length, coral red column dress. And then, Rita came in and blew the roof off the place. Congrats, DKNY!
