Usually when your birthday rolls around, you’re the one getting gifts, not giving them. Fortunately for us, Selena Gomez ain’t about that usual life. Just ahead of her 21st birthday (which is TODAY, BTW), this weekend, the pop princess revealed the music video for “Slow Down,” the second single from her upcoming Stars Dance album which is set to release tomorrow. The musical moving snapshot is set in Paris, all under the cloak of night, with Selly starring classic night-out scenes: en route to destination in the backseat of a car, Naomi Campbell-walking by streetlight, and breaking down choreographed dance moves in a studio loft. Naturally. Each scene is accompanied by a wardrobe change, so as our Selena birthday gift to YOU, we’re running through “Slow Down” look by look. Enjoy!

DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT

The “big decision” red lipstick from “Come And Get It” makes a comeback for “Slow Down,” but this time around, Sel is wearing her hair up (or at the very least, back) for the majority of the video. All the better to see those MASSIVE glittering drop earrings, AMIRITE?

It’s a shame we barely even get to see this number from the waist up, but even just from the neckline, we’d recognize this Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 gem-encrusted bodysuit anywhere.

MIDNIGHT SLICKED MANE

Looks like Sel has learned a thing or two from all those high fashion editorials she’s been featured in. This look is the most Parisian chic of the bunch with wet-look slicked back hair, a bold lip, and STRONG tailored shoulders. The close-up is great, but the full head-to-toe look is seriously drop dead.

LOTS OF COLLARBONE AND LEG

Wowowowowww! This outfit, with the Amen embellish blazer, teeny tiny shorts, and knee-high gladiator boots feels equal parts “I’m trying out for an En Vogue cover band,” “I’ve been rummaging in Rihanna’s closet,” and “I’m Kanye West’s girlfriend,” in all the ABSOLUTE BEST possible ways that could imply.

There are a bunch of kind of voyeuristic shots of Selena dancing solo in a crowded club intercut between everything else. She wears the same outfit as in the choreographed dancing shots but this is where we first saw her killer crop top game, so we feel it necessary to highlight in its original habitat. It looks almost like it’s made up of two parts: a sports bra-like base with cut-outs worn under a sheer, long-sleeved overlay with safety pin embellishments running up and down the arms.

The red lipstick gets scrubbed off for the choreographed portion in favor of a glossy nude lip. Also, her pulled back ponytail is wet-look from root to tip. Very Alexander Wang.

Finally, we leave you with this power stance shot of Selena in the full look for that aforementioned crop top. It’s very late ’90s/early aughts/Ciara always in that it’s a lot of abs and bigger pants, but of all the references, we can’t get Jennifer Lopez circa “If You Had My Love” out of our heads. You know the part. Where she’s dancing solo in that clinically white/silver space they pawned off as her “home” in just a pair of white lounge pants and a silver bikini bra top. Watch it all for yourself in Selena Gomez’s “Slow Down” music video below!
