Azealia Banks' Latest Beef Is With A$AP Rocky Over Lipstick

By Carolyn Amurao

Azealia Banks has gotten herself all worked up again, and this time it’s because A$AP Rocky said that dark skinned girls shouldn’t wear red lipstick (and no one should wear purple in general). Banks, whose signature look involves a purple lip, took to Twitter (in her usual style) to voice how she was personally offended by A$AP’s beauty advice.

In a recent interview with The Coveteur, Rocky offered up skincare tips as well his opinion on girls’ make-up. While The Coveteur has since edited his comments, The Huffington Post reported what he said:

"But for real, for me, I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the pair of complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—f---ing for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick? Naw, that looks stupid on all girls! Purple lipstick, guys! Like, what the f---…"

Sounds like Rocky wouldn’t recommend the M.A.C. lipstick Banks released last year, which is a shade of deep plum.

To speak up for bold lip-wearing women everywhere, Banks took shots at her fellow Harlem-raised rapper and tweeted, “Lol @ asap rockys lipstick advice.” Minutes later, she added, “Some people should just come out of the closet.”

Banks took some heat for implying that Rocky is gay (the rapper claims he’s heterosexual but has publicly supported the gay community) and defended herself by tweeting later in the day, “So rocky takes a direct blow to my image about dark skin and purple lipstick, then as soon as I'm a offended .... I'm the bad guy.”

But this is not the first time a tweet landed Banks in the “bad guy” position. Her shot at A$AP recalled her feud with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton earlier this year, where she used the word “f----t.”

Veering away from further controversial comments (at least ones involving people’s sexual orientation), Banks made sure to play the victim. “That comment was so hurtful. Like hurtful beyond measure. Coming from him especially......,” she tweeted. “It made me cry. It did.”

Apparently not all of Rocky’s make-up advice is offensive or tear-inducing. He told The Coveteur that red lipstick is “fine” although there is a down side. “I’m going to be real, though,” he said. “It’s bad for making out, because it gets on the guys."
