2 Chainz Turned Down Role On ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’

By Victoria McCarthy

With the release of his major label debut, Based on a T.R.U Story, 2 Chainz is keeping a good stride. So we can’t help but wonder what’s next for the Atlanta rapper. Could the next frontier be reality TV stardom? Rumors have been circulating that 2 Chainz would join the cast of the popular reality show “Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta" but he says he turned down the offers.

On a recent trip to Baltimore, 2 Chainz revealed to local radio station 92Q that he had been approached by the producers of the show “numerous amounts of times." However, the rapper says he turned down the offer due to privacy concerns. "I just didn't want to have nothing to do with it.” 2 Chainz explained, “I'm gonna be on the road, they gonna be somewhere just like, in your girl face, with another girl talkin' about another girl."

But Chainz doesn’t seem too worried about bowing out of the reality TV world. This past Wednesday (August 15) 2-Chainz appeared on “RapFix Live” promoting his new album and giving fans a taste of what to expect for his upcoming “Birthday Song” video. Though he is not an official member of G.O.O.D Music, 2-Chainz explained that Kanye West and his team were influential in creating Based on a T.R.U Story, and even snagged West’s director Andreas Nilsson for the “Birthday Song” visuals.

Chainz went on to explain that the director’s imagination was sometimes a bit out of control. “I think cake, balloons, candles, normal birthday stuff, but this guy just goes up the street, turns left and just keeps going left. He's telling me something like, 'I think it'd be nice if we put a cupcake on a girl's butt and shoot it off in fast motion, then blow up the cupcake.' So I said, 'Bro, come back home, come back!'"

However with a bit of creative compromise, 2-Chainz and Nilsson agreed on a concept which the rapper himself describes as “very trippy." "I shot him a few ideas and said, 'Let's play "birthday" word association.'I actually think of women jumping out of a cake, but we combined ideas, and we even had quadruplets in the video. I was intrigued by them."
