Kid Cudi Announces New Label, Wicked Awesome Records

Kid Cudi is getting everything in order for the release of his third album titled Wizard. While performing at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City last night (April 21), Cudi told the crowd that the name of his new record label is “Wicked Awesome Records.” Cudi also revealed that he has changed the name of his band from “Wizard” to “2 Be Continuum.”

“I needed something more original, something different, but it’s still wizardry at its finest,” the “Day 'n' Nite” rapper explained. “It’s science. Basically it’s just me and O-Dot, we been really working hard on this project. I’m really fucking excited for y’all to hear it too. It’s incredible!”

The man born Scott Mescudi has been in the hip-hop news pretty often lately. On April 1 he announced via his Tumblr page that he was no longer going to be smoking marijuana. Almost a month to the day before swearing off the ganja, Cudi squashed his long simmering feud with DC rapper and newly minted Maybach Music member Wale.

But the biggest Cudi news of year thus far was when he announced, via Twitter, that he was splitting from his longtime partners Plain Pat and Emile (Dream On Records) to form his own production company with Dot Da Genius. It was Dot who produced Cudi breakout hit “Day 'n'' Nite,” which ironically, in light of his recent decision to go weed-free, is about smoking the herb. The Cleveland native is still signed to Kanye’s West’s G.O.O.D. Music, though.

As for the part time actor’s upcoming Wizard project, Cudi has stated that it is going to be a Rock album. “I’ve only been playing guitar for nine months but the records have been coming out f--cking epic, epic, I’m really excited,” Cudi told the Roseland crowd. “We gonna have that first single for y'all soon. This summer.”
