Travis Porter 'Make It Rain' In New Video

By D.L. Chandler

You have to give credit to Decatur, Georgia's rap outfit Travis Porter. The trio, comprised of Strap, Ali and Quez, have a knack for disparate visuals and the official clip for their popular viral video for "Make It Rain" debuted on MTV Jams on Monday (December 19) as the Jam of the Week.

Set in a colorful rural landscape, the Gabriel Hart-directed video begins with the camera looking over a dry corn farm. The scene cuts to the owner of the barren crops watching an infomercial from the Travis Porter crew ensuring that they will bring some much needed precipitation. When the owner makes a call to the provided number, a Porterville Express delivery service van drops off a curious package and that’s where the fun begins.

Two scantily dressed farm girls slowly approach the farm's silo when Travis Porter, dressed in black suits and carrying bright yellow umbrellas, appear. As the track builds, random but artfully delivered images — ranging from singing crows to kaleidoscope lens-rendered shots — flash and dart across the screen. The video gets weird when the scene portrays the corn field itself with talking ears of maize before focusing gratuitously on one of the farm girl’s gyrations. The third scene in the video is also the climax, which finds Travis Porter hosting an all out jam in one of the barns. Dubbed the "Porter House," the barn is full of raucous dancers and patrons while a thunderstorm ensues just outside the fracas. There are so many small details present throughout the video so an encore viewing is definitely encouraged.

With the ink still fresh from their deal with Jive, the three long-time friends have expressed an appreciation for their fortune — by contracting a blimp to fly around in their native DeKalb County.

"I think it was the easiest way to make sure everybody can see, the whole city," Strap said. "We love our city, first of all, [and] when they look up in the sky, they see the good news, Travis Porter signed."

Travis Porter plan to release an as-yet-unnamed mixtape in early 2011.
