Indie Games Get A New Home On The PlayStation Store

Some of the most enjoyable games of this generation didn't come from major AAA studios, but were instead developed by smaller, independent teams and delivered as digitally through the likes of Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Now Sony is giving indie games a home all their own, with the introduction of the Indie Games section on the PlayStation Store.

Available "later today" according to the PlayStation Blog, the new Indie Games section builds on the support that PlayStation already offers independent developers, most recently highlighted by PlayStation's Indie Arcade at GDC.

Though independent games will now have their own little home on PSN, PlayStation does intend to keep promoting these games throughout the store. For instance, promotional areas on the homepage will ocassionally highlight an indie game just as they do now. Indie games will also be found under standard categories such as "All PS3 Games."

To celebrate the introduction of the new virtual storefront PlayStation is offering some special deals on games -- details below:

- Retro City Rampage: 50% discount to all from May 7th to May 21st

- Papo & Yo promotional bundle containing the soundtrack and game: 40% discount (55% for PlayStation Plus subscribers) from May 7th to May 21st

- Zombie Tycoon II: Free for PlayStation Plus subscribers for a limited time
