'Section 8: Prejudice' Dated, Coming To XBLA First

"Section 8" was a cool online multiplayer-only shooter from TimeGate Studios that never really managed to find it's footing. The dev has been working on a sequel to the 2009 release, "Section 8: Prejudice," a download-only title that will feature more content than the original game offered. We knew the game was getting close and now there's a release date to look to-- several, really, as the game is launching for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows platforms at different times.

"Prejudice" will come to Xbox Live Arcade first, with the release date now set for later this month, April 20. The PC release will follow on May 4, with Games For Windows Live functionality built in (Achievements!). The PS3 version is the furthest out, and will in fact arrive on an as-yet unspecified date this summer.

The original game was notable for its rather ingenious respawn mechanic. Rather than simply reappearing in a "safe" location on the battlefield, players drop down from a great height with the ability to land anywhere on the battlefield. Areas held by the opposing team were protected by anti-air defenses, but the feature brought an additional layer of tactical planning to each match.

"Section 8" also featured Dynamic Combat Missions, which were basically in-match mini-objectives (such as to protect/destroy a convoy or keep a VIP safe/take him down). Completing these objectives and performing other successful combat actions would earn Requisition Point, which could be spent in-game on turrets, vehicles and the like. The sequel will add more modes, a more fully developed single-player campagin and a range of other added features, all for the exceedingly low price of $15.

"Section 8" was a strong game, but relatively light on content for a $60 release. The sequel adds more, for less. Seems like a hard thing to pass up, even with the abundance of competition it's going up against.
