'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes' Photo: Apes On Horses!

Caesar and his ape followers have evolved quite a bit since the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." As seen in a Twitter photo posted by director Matt Reeves, a "new dawn" is coming in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" where apes can ride horses.

The image Reeves posted shows Andy Serkis' Caesar facing having a conversation with Jason Clarke's character. Serkis and another man can be seen wearing motion capture suits, but interestingly their characters are seen on horses. That's a nice nod to the original "Planet of the Apes" movies, where horses were a main means of travel for the apes.

Hopefully this is a sign that the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" films will continue to bring this series closer and closer to the original. The first movie definitely set up the shape of things to come, and it will be interesting to see how that evolves going forwards. This teaser reveals Reeves is definitely off to a good start.

The plot synopsis for "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was also recently revealed. The movie is set 15 years after the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and Caesar still acts as the leader of a group of genetically enhanced apes. However, the humans who survived the virus that spread following the events of "Rise" now serve as a threat to the apes' survival. Though a truce is formed, a war soon breaks out as both sides seek to rule of the planet.

Toby Kebbell and Enrique Murciano were added to the cast that includes Serkis, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Clarke, Judy Greer and Kodi Smit-McPhee. It's due in theaters on May 23, 2014.
