'Avatar' Star Sam Worthington Goes From Pandora To 'The Fields'

The "Avatar" actor has signed on to star in "The Fields," a police thriller directed by Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of "Heat" filmmaker Michael Mann. Mann himself is acting as a producer on the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Fields" comes from Don Ferrarone's screenplay based upon the true story of unsolved murders in the Texas bayou. Worthington plays a Texas homicide detective that unites with a detective from New York to solve the crime.

This isn't the first word we've heard on "The Fields" though it is the first we've heard with the new abbreviated title. Once upon a time, "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle told MTV News about a project called "The Texas Killing Fields," which he described as having a fantastic script that would likely never see the light of day due to its dark tones. Barring disaster, it looks like he was wrong about the production's chances.

Rumors of Worthington's involvement in "The Fields" date back to Pajiba's November report that also correctly identified Mann as the project's director. Additionally, the report suggested that Bradley Cooper was attached to star in the film. With Worthington announced as the Texas cop, Cooper would presumably play the New York detective. Cooper's involvement isn't official by any means, but given the earlier report's two-out-of-three track record thus far, don't be surprised if the "A-Team" star finds himself in "The Fields."

More official is this — Worthington is rocking out right now. Following the massive success of "Avatar," the actor will be seen on screens in "Clash of the Titans." He's also looking to sink his teeth into "Dracula Year Zero." Now with "The Fields" on his upcoming slate, there's only one truly important question left to ask — how is his Australian accent going to fare against his character's required southern drawl?
