The Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, has claimed responsibility for Friday's coordinated, bloody attacks in Paris that left at least 100 people dead, The New York Times reports. ISIS called the attacks "the first of the storm" and labeled France as a "capital of prostitution and obscenity" in statements released on the group's telegram account, which were then distributed via Twitter by its members.

This comes the same day French president François Hollande blamed ISIS for the attacks and called it "an act of war."

"It is an act of war that was prepared, organized and planned from abroad, with complicity from the inside, which the investigation will help establish," Hollande said in a speech.

On Friday, terrorists with bombs struck the French capital's sports stadium during soccer match and the Bataclan music venue during a concert, while shooters hit the city's 10th and 11th Arrondissements. The chaos ended with suicide bombings, bringing the total number of people dead to over 100, and some reports have placed the number as high as 127.
