Tumblr Released Their Instant Messaging Platform In The Most Tumblr Way Possible

There's a twist -- of course.

Tumblr users woke up to a surprise Tuesday (Nov. 10) morning -- instant messaging is now a part of the micro-blogging platform! But, as is the way of one of the most unique websites ever, there's a catch.

Fifteen hundred random users woke up yesterday to a smiling speech bubble, indicating to them that they were one of the lucky winners to receive Tumblr instant messaging. The only way to get messaging is if someone with messaging already messages you. (Apropos of nothing, I'd like to now plug my Tumblr and mention that I love chatting with folks. ?) If you don't have it yet either, don't fret -- Tumblr says that by December everyone should have it.

"It’s going to take a few weeks to get it out to everyone (we need to make sure our servers can handle the weight of your discourse). If you don’t have it now, you’ll have it soon," Tumblr said on their blog. " If you message someone, they’ll get messaging. Eventually, messaging will cover the earth."

Before, when you wanted to contact someone, the only way you could do it is if you asked a question via the ask feature. Even then, there was no way to keep track of what you asked. This development is definitely welcome and already being used to the fullest.

Happy messaging (eventually), everyone! ?
