"Shadowhunters" made its New York Comic Con debut in front of thousands of screaming "Mortal Instruments" fans, and the cast and creators, including author Cassandra Clare, were there to drop some major details on the anticipated new series.
The show, based on Clare’s bestselling book series, "The Mortal Instruments," follows 18-year-old Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) on a journey of self discovery. Her world is turned upside down when she discovers that she comes from a long line of angel-human hybrid demon-hunters, called Shadowhunters.
It was announced during the panel that the series will premiere on January 12, 2016 on ABC Family (soon to be known as Freeform), following "Pretty Little Liars." A special, titled "The Making Of Shadowhunters," will air on December 6, 2015.
Here’s what else we learned about the Shadow World during the panel:
How much of the first season will be Book 1?
"Shadowhunters" isn't pulling a "Game of Thrones," so don't expect Season 1 to cover everything in "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones." "What we tried to do is honor everything Cassie created, with some surprises for fans of the books," showrunner Ed Decter said.
Characters from some of Cassie Clare's other novels might make an appearance.
This is HUGE news for fans of Clare's other series "The Infernal Devices" and "The Dark Artifices."
Malec's lips are sealed.
Although we didn't get a definitive answer on when exactly Magnus and Alec will get together on the series, Decter definitely confirmed that it would happen. Oh, and the way Matthew Daddario says "MALEC" will make you swoon.
"I thought the best thing we could do is just show strong characters, being themselves and owning who they are," executive producer McG said.
Dom Sherwood was cast because "he looked mean."
Clare said he was the first Jace she saw. "They said, 'He looks mean,' and I said, 'Exactly!'" She added, "He came into the room and everyone fell in love with him."
Dom broke 12 steles during filming Season 1.
Matthew Daddario broke none. Parabatai, huh?
Cassandra Clare is excited to see Alec and Malec meet for the first time.
"And of course, I'm excited to see Jace and Clary's first kiss." Aww. Cassie is such a fangirl and we love her for it.
There's a little bit of Sizzy.
"Very little," Emeraude Toubia said. "It's growing. There's a spark."
Katherine McNamara really slapped Dom Sherwood.
And he definitely wasn't expecting it to hurt so bad. "I mean, look at her arm," he said. "I didn't think it would hurt. But it really, really did."
