This Is Latest Such Threat Since The Umpqua Shootings

Authorities in Philadelphia sent out warnings to students at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Drexel University on Sunday after receiving a threat of violence against "an unspecified university near Philadelphia." The schools planned to operate as usual on Monday (Oct. 5), but urged students to report any suspicious activity. According to some reports, the threat is linked to a post on 4chan that made reference to someone who would "take up arms against a university near Philadelphia." An official at Drexel assured students that actions have been taken to increase security, noting that the FBI has received similar threats around the country since the shootings at Umpqua Community College. Meanwhile, authorities in California revealed over the weekend that they had foiled a plot last week by four students to go on a shooting rampage at their high school near Yosemite National Park.

Historic Floods Kill 5 In South Carolina

A "1,000-year" storm swamped South Carolina over the weekend, causing historic flooding that has killed at least 5, shut down interstates and prompted state officials to issue boil orders for drinking water in some areas. Residents in some areas have been urged to stay indoors on Monday to avoid roadways flooded with a foot or more of water. After several hundred water rescues on Sunday, more rain is forecast for today.

South Korean NYU Student Released By North Korea

Won Moon Joo, 21, an NYU student who has been in jail in North Korea since April, was handed over to South Korean officials on Monday morning. The transfer came nearly seven months after Joo illegally entered North Korea through China saying after his arrest that he had made the illegal crossing in an effort to bring about better relations between the two Koreas. Joo could face criminal charges for violating a national security law that bars South Koreans from visiting the North without government permission.

Quick Take: Doctors Without Borders has closed the Kunduz, Afghanistan, hospital it claims was hit by a U.S. airstrike over the weekend that killed 22 people and injured 37 others. The Pentagon is investigation the attack, which is said "may" have caused some collateral damage. The aid organization is asking for an independent review of the bombing, which it says went on for an hour, even after officials reportedly informed U.S. and Afghan officials of the medical center's GPS to avoid being targeted. Senior Pentagon officials are looking into whether members of the Taliban were using the hospital to launch attacks.
