Flume's Animated, Planet-Hopping 'Space Cadet' Video Is The Trippiest Thing You'll See All Day
Wait, this ISN'T what everyone sees when they close their eyes?? O_____O
Has your day been far too grounded in reality thus far? Harley Edward Streten, aka Australian producer Flume, has got you covered, because his new video for "Space Cadet," featuring Ghostface Killah and Autre Ne Veut, is basically one big interplanetary, technicolor acid trip. Which reminds us: DON'T DO DRUGS.
In the 22-year-old MTV Artist To Watch's animated clip, he and Autre Ne Veut are rendered as a shaggy-haired boombox enthusiast and a three-headed crooner, respectively. They lead a pack of similarly bizarre-looking creatures, Pied Piper-style, to an altar to summon the enemy of soft rappers everywhere, the almighty Ghostface.
As the Wu-Tang Clan rapper drops his verse, a pyramid with a kickass laser-light system rises from below. Wait, do you think this is the same magically enhanced pyramid from Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" video? The whole "jetting off from the ground and also being a pyramid" thing makes us wonder...
Animation style look familiar? That's probably 'cause "Space Cadet" was directed by Jim Dirschberger and Jay Howell of Nickelodeon's "Sanjay And Craig" fame. Howell also works as an illustrator on Fox's "Bob's Burgers," which, um, might help to explain why our lower bodies are seriously Tina'ing out to this track right now.
