Watch a more in-depth Zebra tale come to life in Capital Cities' "Kangaroo Short."

All too often, our favorite music videos' attempts to tell a story in five minutes or under leave us asking for more. Los Angeles-based Capital Cities must have heard our frustrated cries, because they've delivered a nine-minute short film based on their previously released clip for "Kangaroo Court."

The band members -- Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian -- paired up with director Carlos López Estrada -- the mastermind behind videos by Passion Pit and the Goo Goo Dolls -- and re-edited and added to the zoo animal-focused footage shot before in the hopes of creating a more complete narrative.

You may recall that the original video welcomed viewers into a world of human-animal hybrids, specifically following the frustrations of a zebra-headed man who is ostracized from a swanky club -- appropriately called "Kangaroo Court" -- for being, well, a zebra.

While the same visual allegory about social inequality is present, the longer running time allows the clip to more clearly capture the nuances of each of its characters. (See? Film Studies 101 pays off, y'all.)

Oh, and the new version also gives you way more time to swoon over Darren Criss and Shannon Woodward, who both play beautiful half-canine people! That's worth a music video re-shoot in and of itself.
