Lorde Is Totally Anti-Fist Pumping In Her Latest Song, 'Team'

Lorde is on our "Team" in her new record

We'll totally be on Lorde's "Team." OBVIOUSLY.

It's really hard not to feel confused about your identity/success levels when you "meet" a 16-year-old singer like Lorde. The Auckland, New Zealand, native was already like, "I don't care if you've got more Louboutins than me" in her minimal-yet-infectious "Royals," then she was all, "Your fancy vernacular DON'T IMPRESS-A ME MUCH" in the equally ethereal "Tennis Court."

In "Team," a cut off her forthcoming Pure Heroine, Lorde's still up to her old tricks: questioning authority, fancy people, and saying a hearty "NOPE" to pumping her fists. Or, as she puts it in her new record: "I’m kinda over being told to thrown my hands up in the air."

Listen to Lorde's "Team" after the jump.

Flanked by the same sparking synths and surging melody lines that made "Royals" a smash, "Team" features a more controlled, subtle attraction. A thumping percussion track anchors the record in "mid-tempo" land, giving listeners ample time to soak up Lorde's fanciful lyrics: "Living in ruins of the palace in my dreams/ And you know/ We're on each other's team." GREAT! Because if I'm on your team, then Imma need three backstage passes to your next show, and maybe a one-on-one chat where you give me tips on how not to give literally ANY EFFS.
