Remembering 2gether: Is A Reunion In The Works?!

Right around the turn of the millennium, fake-ish boy band 2gether was everywhere. Formed in 1999 as a response to the boy band wave that had the charts in a death grip, with Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC ruling the airwaves, 2gether was a parody boy band introduced to the world by way of an MTV original movie, which debuted in 2000. The movie profiled the fictional casting and rise to success of the group, while in real life, high-profile appearances on TRL and a spot opening for Britney Spears on tour helped make them into an actual success story. Infectious singles like "U + Me = Us (Calculus)" and "Say It (Don't Spray It)" caused their debut album, 2gether, to peak in the Top 40 on the Billboard 200. And their second album, 2gether Again, spawned the single "The Hardest Part of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff)," which charted on the Hot 100.

Part of the band's success was the weird, goofy likability of their members, which fulfilled and satirized the expectations of stock boy band personality types: Evan Farmer played Jerry, the Heartthrob; there was Chad, the Shy One, portrayed by Noah Bastian; the aforementioned QT; Alex Solowitz's lovable Neanderthal of a "bad boy," Mickey Parke; and the amazing Kevin Farley (brother of the late Chris Farley) as Doug, the "Older Brother." But 2gether was forced to disband in early 2001, when Michael Cuccione died after years of battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, and the group slipped into the annals of teen pop ephemera.

But now they're back, y'all! Bad boy Alex Solowitz recently told TMZ that the four surviving members want to make a mockumentary about the band's reunion and start releasing new music. The band says they'll be donating much of the proceeds to the Michael Cuccione Foundation, which works to support childhood cancer research, so it would be kinda noble and philanthropic, too! Interest is building on Twitter (check out the hashtag #2getherReunion), so maybe there's something to an incipient 2gether reunion. (Crosses fingers/ prays/ shakes/ cries.)
