You know Spectacular! star Nolan Gerard Funk, but what about the movie's female lead, Tammin Sursok? The Australian singer/actress called me from L.A. just the other day and gave me the scoop on playing Courtney -- the super-spazzy brains behind Spectacular!'s show choir -- and freezing her butt off on the movie's Vancouver set.

Buzzworthy: How'd you prepare for the role of Courtney?

Tammin Sursok: I'd never been able to play a comedic role with such an A-type personalty before. So I watched a lot of films like Grease and Election. And Courtney's definitely a perfectionist, so I found the character's neuroses and the little things that perfectionists do and adapted them to myself. It also came down to how she walked. She walks really upright which is not how I walk. So every time I'd walk upright, I would morph into her.

BW: What's one thing you're a perfectionist about in real life?

TS: I'm a perfectionist about being on time. As a result, I'm usually the first person there. But in my own life, I'm so not a perfectionist about little things except for working -- I'm a perfectionist about knowing my lines.

BW: So you're not really like Courtney in real life?

TS: No!

BW: Were you ever in show choir?

TS: I'm from Australia, and we didn't have show choir there, so I hadn't even heard of it! It's kind of an American phenomenon. But it sounds like so much fun! I would've been it!

BW: What's the funniest thing that happened on set?

TS: Nolan would always make funny faces off camera during parts when I had to laugh, which was nice of him. There were some injuries, which are the kind of things that happen in dance films -- they can be recipes for disaster!

BW: I saw that when you were shooting up in Vancouver, it was so cold that you needed to wear warming pads. What other Spectacular! secrets can you let us in on?

It was so cold in Vancouver! People on the blogs were like "it's not so cold down there." But coming from Australia or L.A., it's COLD! I had to have those heating pads in my pants because it was definitely chilly. We'd have like three layers under our jeans and three under our shirts! Also, there was one scene where I go up to Nolan and say "good luck." And that scene was shot over three days because every time we started doing that scene, it started raining. It was like a 30-second scene, and it took forever to shoot!

BW: Did you and Nolan practice for your kissing scene?

TS: No. The kiss was supposed to take place on stage, and then there was back-and-forth banter about where the kiss would take place. We didn't know where we were going to kiss, so Nolan was like "why don't we just do both?" I was like "Mmhm. Sure." But we went for it right at the end, which seemed more appropriate.

BW: So you basically sealed Spectacular! with a kiss.

TS: Yep!

BW: You've got a background in music. Are you working on anything now that the movie's done?

TS: I did music in Australia and London, and I've been approached by a few different record labels,  but I haven't figured out where I wanna go. Sometimes if you wanna do music, you have to put your whole heart and soul into it, and I just don't know where I wanna go with that right now.

BW: How are you going to celebrate the night the movie comes out?

TS: They're flying me out to New York, so I'll be there for the premiere!

BW: Got any plans for Valentine's Day?

TS: I'll still be in New York, so we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll be asked to dinner!
