What started out as potential shade throwing by Justin Bieber has turned into a bit of a musical love fest between him and fellow Canadian singer Shawn Mendes.

First, Justin claimed he had no idea who Shawn was, which didn't really bother Shawn -- he was still a "fan" of the Biebs. Justin then made good on his word and checked out Shawn's music and was "so proud" of what he heard.

On Thursday (Oct. 1), Shawn decided to take it one step further by giving us a quick cover of Justin's hit song, "What Do You Mean." The "Stitches" singer, who told us he would "love" to collaborate with Justin, posted the clip to his Instagram, and while you can't see his face, you can hear all the musical magic.

Shawn, who covered Justin's "As Long As You Love Me" a few years back, put his own acoustic spin on the song, slowing it down and giving Justin something to be proud of once again.

My only complaint is that we can't hear the whole thing.
