In the month of September alone, Austin Mahone has dropped two free downloads: the flame emoji-worthy slow jam “Do It Right” and the Chris Brown-influenced “On Your Way.” Both tracks proved the 19-year-old is hard at work carving out in a niche in the pop-R&B sphere, making Mahomies chomping at the bit to hear more.

But for his latest free tune, Austin’s given us a peek into his personal life with his most emotional song to date: “Not Far (a song for Mema),” a touching tribute to his late grandmother.

“If you could see me now, I hope that you’d be proud of me,” he gently croons, before reminiscing about their cherished moments together and wishing he had more time with her.

A video accompanying the sweet song begins with the following text: “3 years ago today I lost my grandma to cancer. I wrote this song about her. I hope this song reminds you of the good times that you had with someone that you may have lost too. I miss you everyday Mema.” The clip also includes intimate photographs and personal footage of Austin and his grandma, adding up to a tender tribute that’ll make your eyes sweat (and will also make you want to call your grandmother immediately).
