This is one dessert you definitely don't want to drop. Alex Patterson proposed to his longtime boyfriend, Benjamin Mize, with the most thoughtful and elaborate cake ever on Saturday, Sept. 19. Swoooon.

"September 21 is Ben’s birthday, so I decided to do a surprise birthday party for him, but I didn’t tell everyone coming it would also be a surprise engagement and party,” Patterson told BuzzFeed Life. He popped the big question after this gem of a cake arrived at the event.

The dessert, designed by Creative Cakes by Catherine, tells the story of Patterson and Mize's two-year relationship so far: "We’re both literary minded. We’ve also developed a shared interest in board games, so I thought about the books and games that are most important to us."

For example, they're both fans of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series and "The Half-Blood Prince" is Mize's favorite book. The cake also pays homage to TV shows the couple watch together, books they've lent each other and board games they've played together. D'awww. ???
