Carson Is Taking Serious Heat For His Comments

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said during an interview on Sunday that Islam is not "consistent" with American values and the Constitution and that a Muslim should never be president. Carson, near the top of many polls, said a president's faith is important, but his view on a Muslim candidate's fitness for office directly contradicts Article VI of the Constitution which states "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office." Meanwhile, after generating his own controversy over not correcting a voter who claimed President Obama is a Muslim, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump doubled down on Sunday when asked if he'd be comfortable with a Muslim president. "Some people have said it already happened, frankly," he said, seemingly referring to Obama.

U.S. To Greatly Expand Refugee Efforts

As Europe struggles to absorb the hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants streaming in from the Middle East and Africa, the U.S. has been criticized for not doing its fair share to shoulder the burden. But over the weekend, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the nation will significantly increase that number over the next two years, bumping it up to 100,000 annually by 2017. The U.S. has already increased its 2016 figure from 70,000 to 85,000, though Kerry said it is difficult to take in more because of post-9/11 screening requirements and a lack of funding from Congress.

Man Charged With Murder In Church Shooting

Authorities in Selma, Alabama, charged James Minter, 26, with attempted murder on Sunday evening after Minter was accused of shooting his 24-year-old girlfriend, their one-month-old baby son and the 61-year-old pastor of the church earlier in the day. No one was killed in the incident and Minter, who is being held without bond, is facing life in prison for each charge.

Quick Take 2: Apple confirmed on Sunday that hackers had inserted malicious code into hundreds of iOS App Store apps, marking the biggest such hack of the store to date. At press time the company had not yet told consumers how to remove the bad code from apps downloaded for their iPhones and iPads.
