The Black Keys' Patrick Carney Says Jack White Tried To Fight Him

White denies it. Also, they're probably cool now.

In terms of rock music in 2015, it's hard to find bigger names than Jack White and The Black Keys. So it only makes sense that the two acts haven't always gotten along. In fact, there's been something of a cold war between them for the last few years.

On Sunday night, though, things reportedly came to a head when, in Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney's words (via Twitter), "He came to a bar in Nyc I go to a lot with a few friends and tried to fight me." The tweet, along with a string of others like it, has since been deleted -- except this one:

According to Carney, White was the aggressor in this situation -- or to hear him put it another way, "A 40 year old bully tried to fight the 35 year old nerd" (also deleted, unfortunately).

But White told Pitchfork on Monday morning (Sept. 14), that Carney's story had been exaggerated. "Nobody tried to fight you, Patrick," White said. "Nobody touched you or 'bullied' you. You were asked a question you couldn’t answer so you walked away. So quit whining to the Internet and speak face to face like a human being. End of story."

Based on Carney's latest tweet, the two might've done exactly that.

A tweet from White's Third Man Records confirms the detente.

Strained relations between White and Carney (and his bandmate, Dan Auerbach) surfaced in 2013 when leaked emails revealed White's thoughts about the Black Keys allegedly ripping off his sound -- the bluesy garage-rock sound with which The White Stripes made it big in the early 2000s. White also has a history of brawling with musical rivals in clubs, dating back to 2003.

Carney, on the other hand, is a noted fire-thrower, saying White "sounds like an a--hole" in 2014 and even labeling Justin Bieber a "f–king irresponsible a–hole" (must be his go-to insult).

Given both men's disdain for the media -- Carney hates TMZ, while White hates pretty much everything -- it should be interesting to see how they play this one out.
