If you ever wonder what it's like for Slytherin girls whose "cunning" might be read as "bitchiness" or side-eye the fact that Hufflepuff ladies are forever heading ~back to the kitchen~ to reach their common room, you're totally not alone. A wizard girl's got to wonder: Is the world of 'Harry Potter' immune to muggle-world sexism or do those pesky gender norms also hitch a ride on the Hogwarts express?

Youtuber Marina Watanabe (MarinaShutUp) asks all these very tough questions as she takes a closer look at the defining traits of each Hogwarts house and how gender roles might play in to the sorting process (assuming sexism transcends magical boundaries. Yuck.)

Even though there are amazing wizards of all genders making their way out of every house, there's still something to be said about reading the houses (and their founders) for their gender connections. Take the maternal compassion of Helga Hufflepuff, the quiet wisdom of Rowena Ravenclaw, the outspoken bravery of Godric Gryffindor or the proud cunning of Salazar Slytherin -- their traits, while all valuable and important in their own ways, all fall very neatly into the gender binary-approved roles.

While I'm personally down to believe gender inequality is an easily swish-and-flicked away muggle problem, I guess a class or two about gender might still be a nice addition to the muggle studies department.
