These Thousands Of Tiny Crabs Prove El Niño Is Going 'Godzilla' This Year

This is kinda scary, but this crab video is magical.

Even the weather is up on the 90's throwback trend. Tropical weather pattern El Niño, which dominated headlines in 1997, is back like overalls and bucket hats (why bucket hats, why?) and meteorologists say it's to blame for the thousands of tiny red pelagic crabs that are currently swarming around near San Miguel Island off the coast of California.

Last time it came around, the warming ocean temperatures caused by El Niño led to a series of big hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding in the US, and meteorologists have been saying that this time around it could be even bigger -- "Godzilla-like" is the phrase they've been using -- which is cause for serious concern about storms and flooding in parts of the U.S.. There's also some concern that the crabs will eventually wash up on shore and die, which would not only be sad for the crabs, but could also make it hard for California sea lions to find food.

For now, though, we can all be soothed by how completely mesmerizing this video of the little crabbies swirling around in the ocean together is:
