How Nick Jonas Is Getting The Whole Red Carpet Involved In His VMA Pre-Show Performance

Performing at the VMAs in any capacity is—I imagine—already pretty nerve-wracking, but to perform on your own when the last time you hit a VMA stage was alongside your brothers has to evoke a special kind of anticipation. That's exactly what Nick Jonas will be doing when he takes the 2015 VMA pre-show by storm Sunday night (August 30).

MTV News caught up with Nick for a quick chat moments after his rehearsal for the show (he apologized for being sweaty even though I definitely didn't mind). On top of confirming that the Moon Babes will be coming back—and multiplying!—for his performance, Nick also dropped some exciting new details about his entrance. "It's kind of a trail through the whole red carpet," he revealed. "I'm expecting the unexpected to happen because it's kind of crazy environment to do a performance in, but it should be a good time, and hopefully, everything runs smoothly, and if it doesn't, it'll make for great TV."

Apparently that also means that everyone on the carpet at the time will be a part of the performance. That means Kelly Osbourne, Sway Calloway, and whoever's hitting the step-and-repeat at the time are all fair game. It may have been a minute since he last performed, but Nick has definitely still been attending and watching the show. "It's a pretty incredible feeling to be back at the VMAs. Last year, I was here and I was sitting up in the rafters, and luckily my friend Demi let me sit with her in the cool kid section, and so, to be back to be nominated and be recognized for that is an amazing thing," Nick explained. "And I get to perform a new single. It's really telling in my mind of what a great year this has been, and I'm just truly grateful more than anything. I feel very fortunate to be in the position I'm in, and hope it's just the beginning of a long relationship with the VMAs, MTV, and my fans who are the best in the world."

Other than it being a huge look for any performer, there are other, less obvious benefits to performing early. "After I perform and after my award," Nick said crossing his fingers, "I'm gonna probably find the bar and have a drink because I'll be able to enjoy the show because I'll be stress-free at that point. That's the first priority." After that, it's all just kickin' it and watching the show. "I'm excited to watch Miley host," he explained. "I'm excited to watch Demi perform, obviously, and other than that, I think I'm just excited to see a great night of entertainment."
