Sorry, Beyoncé — There’s A New Queen Of Instagram
Hate to break it to you, Beyhive, but your queen has been dethroned. At least, for now.
Sometime this weekend, a new threat stealthily slipped passed Beyoncé to become the most followed person on Instagram. And that new monarch is… drum roll, please… Kim Kardashian, the selfie queen herself!
On Monday (Aug. 24), news broke that the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star has passed 44 million followers, putting former title holder Bey in second place by a tiny margin.
Tech Insider attributes Kim’s new milestone to her tendency to post more frequently and to include wordier and more personal captions — something Bey’s not really known for. But then again, she’s Beyoncé, for crying out loud! And her cute family vaca pics and epic throwback snaps will always be honor-worthy, in our opinion.
Technically, the most followed account is Instagram’s own, which boasts 94 million followers. But after that, the top 10 is made up entirely of (mostly female) celebs — with Justin Bieber as the sole male presence. And in further proof that the Kardashian-Jenner clan are true Insta royalty, three of Kim’s sisters claim spots on the list.
Here’s the current top 10, in all their filtered glory, according to Social Blade:
1. Kim Kardashian — 44,005,604
2. Beyoncé — 43,935,648
3. Taylor Swift — 43,533,226
4. Selena Gomez — 41,843,095
5. Ariana Grande — 41,696,873
6. Justin Bieber — 36,994,254
7. Kendall Jenner — 35,388,483
8. Kylie Jenner — 33,703,166
9. Nicki Minaj — 32,278,123
10. Khloé Kardashian — 30,522,261
In the past, Kim has rewarded her fans with special, often-revealing selfies when she’s reached a certain number of followers. On Aug. 9, for example, she posted a pic of her cleavage, captioning it, “42 mil.” No word yet on what she’ll do to celebrate this victory.
